At Arts Bar Hope Street we believe creativity should be for everyone. Our aim is to make the venue welcoming, accessible and inclusive for all visitors, artists and audiences and we are constantly working to improve how we do this.
We want to be upfront about our current situation of Arts Bar Hope Street. At the entrance to our building there are two steps, for which we provide a portable ramp. Inside, there are eight further steps leading into the main venue. We know this creates a barrier for some visitors, and we are actively working with our landlords, neighbouring tenants and heritage officers to create a permanent accessible solution as soon as possible.
Once inside, all of our spaces are step-free, including our bar, performance areas, five dance studios, two rehearsal rooms and gallery. We also provide an accessible toilet on the ground floor. Our team are always available to assist where needed and will do everything we can to make sure everyone feels welcome.
Arts Bar Baltic is fully accessible via a lift, which can be reached through the fire exit on Jamaica Street. To use this entrance, visitors simply need to make our staff aware so that the door can be opened for you. We are currently working with our landlords to upgrade the doorbell system to make this process even easier and more independent.
Once inside, all areas of the venue are accessible, and our staff are happy to assist if needed.
Accessibility for us is not only about buildings. A large proportion of our events are free or low-cost, ensuring that financial barriers don’t prevent people from experiencing the arts. We are developing clearer event information and introducing relaxed performance options to make our programme more comfortable and inclusive for everyone.
Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do. Our team is made up of working artists from across different disciplines and backgrounds, and we are committed to creating a safe, respectful environment for all. We work with local universities, community groups and partner organisations to make sure underrepresented voices are given a platform and supported to grow.
